Students at the Big Pine  Academy Middle School have  embarked on a service project  that aims to help the nonprofit  group
“Growing Hope Initiative”  revive rare fruit park Grimal  Grove. Each Friday afternoon, students walk from Big Pine Academy's
’campus to Grimal Grove, located at 258 Cunningham Lane on Big Pine Key. Upon arrival, students break up into smaller
groups where they have planted vegetable gardens and tropical fruit trees, painted fences and signs, weeded, mulched and
even had blacksmithing lessons. “Our students are thrilled to have this unique opportunity to serve their community while gaining
practical knowledge about sustainability and agriculture,” says teacher Jennifer Sullivan. BPA students plan to continue the
service project until the school year comes to an end in June.
