Despite our best efforts to reopen, we do not have the green light from the department of health or our local school district to have our K-5 students on campus.
Many of the decisions being made by local authorities can be confusing to our staff and families. The following information and plan of action is what I know up to this point. Our state-approved plan, had the later start date built-in as a contingency for opening at a Level 2 or Level 3. Our district is currently at a Level 3 exposure rating. I remain optimistic that online learning will not be long term. I will be continuously seeking the Florida Department of Health’s approval for us to reopen on campus.
Week of August 10th: All staff reports to work on campus PK3-5th grade. Each family will be contacted by your child/children's teacher directly to answer specific questions and provide more detailed information about the start of the school year.
Week of August 17th: School will be open on campus for students that are enrolled in our PK3 and VPK program, Monday – Friday 8:00-3:00. Our goal for this week will be to host a virtual open house and once again organize a chrome book and supply pick up for K-5.
Week of August 24th: Each teacher will host a few trial runs throughout the week to address technology needs
August 31st: K-5 online learning will begin. PK3 and VPK will continue learning on campus.
I will get information to you as things evolve and I know more. My heart is with you all.

Big Pine Academy earns designation as a 2017-2018 Florida School of Excellence!
Florida Statutes Section 1003.631 requires the State Board of Education to designate a school as a School of Excellence if the school's percentage of possible points earned in its school grade calculation is in the 80th percentile of higher for schools comprised of the same grade groupings (elementary, middle, high and combination) for a least two of the last three school years. Big Pine Academy was able to earn this designation as an elementary school by receiving an "A" grade in the most recent school years (2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18) and have a rank at the 80th percentile or higher for their school type for at least two of the last three years.
Congrats to the staff, teachers, students, and families of BPA for earning this distinction!
